During the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce's monthly membership luncheon on Wednesday, 10Box Cost Plus received recognition as the March Member of the Month.
10Box Cost Plus Manager Jerry Martin accepted the award and emphasized the store’s commitment to providing affordable food for local families.
“With today’s economy, we are constantly searching for the best deals to pass on to our customers. It’s our privilege to offer great prices, quality products, and excellent customer service to Sallisaw,” Martin said.
Martin expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “We are thankful for everyone who shops with us. Our commitment remains to provide the best so you can serve the best at your table.”

Sallisaw Public Schools Superintendent Steve Barrett announced that while some finishing touches are still needed on the new turf at the baseball field, the first game was successfully played Tuesday evening. The upgraded field will host more than just Black Diamonds baseball games.
“This is a multi-use field,” Barrett said. “It will accommodate everything from Little League and fast-pitch softball to high school and college baseball. This is a major step forward for us and has been a long time coming.”
To celebrate, Barrett shared plans for a ribbon-cutting event, complete with hot dogs and other festivities.
One key advantage of the new turf is its quick drainage, allowing games to resume within 30 minutes of a rain delay.

General manager (GM) of the Fort Smith Marshals summer wood-bat collegiate team, Greg Kigar, was the chamber's keynote speaker this month. Kigar is currently starting his second year as the GM for the Fort Smith Marshals Collegiate Wood Bat League franchise.
The Fort Smith Marshals is a summer wood-bat collegiate team, which serves as a developmental league for college players. The team provides college-age players with opportunities to gain experience by playing 60 or more games during the summer, from late May to early August, before returning to their college programs in the fall.
With a strong coaching staff, including manager Buddy Mercado and highly skilled hitting and pitching coaches, the Marshals offer players more time to develop their skills in a competitive environment filled with scouts, experienced umpires, and top-tier competition.
During the announcement portion of the meeting, Sallisaw Mayor Ernie Martens provided details on the upcoming Sallisaw Farmers Market. The Farmers Market kicks off the market season opening Saturday, April 5, in downtown Sallisaw.
The market currently offers close to 40 vendor slots, which are available for a small fee. Martens shared that the market is working towards and hopeful to become Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) friendly this spring or summer, making fresh, locally grown produce more accessible to the community.
In addition, Martens discussed the growth potential of the Farmers Market in the future. “The Farmers Market is a wonderful asset to our community. It’s a place where people come together."
Vendors offer many items, including handcrafted goods, fresh and seasonal produce, flowers, jewelry, and more, making each visit unique.
