Tuesday, June 20, 2023 - The Sequoyah County OSU Extension will be hosting summer activities for members of the Sequoyah County 4H program during the months of June and July.
The planned activities will offer a diverse range of experiences for 4-H students. The events planned include crafts, wildlife education, environmental awareness, and socializing over buckets of homemade ice cream.
The excitement begins on June 22 with a Crafts Clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds.
During the event, students will have the opportunity to showcase their creative artwork and handicrafts. In addition, 4H’ers will discover crafting projects they can enter into the Arkansas-Oklahoma or Tulsa State Fair.
On June 23, it’s Sequoyah County Wildlife Refuge Day. Refuge Day will take place at 107993 S. 4520 Rd., Vian, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Youth are encouraged to attend an outdoor guided tour of the Sequoyah County Refuge. The group will be educated on subjects such as wildlife and conservation in Sequoyah County by outdoor recreation planner Chad Ford. A pizza lunch will be provided for all who attend.
On July 13 from 1 to 3 p.m., a repurposing class is scheduled to teach younger generations about reducing the use of products that have the potential to become waste. The class is set to take place at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds.
Attendees will learn ways to reuse and recycle items by converting or repurposing items no longer in use rather than throwing them away. Those attending will need to bring their own items to be repurposed for a craft.
The last summer activity being offered is an Ice Cream Social on July 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be a come-and-go gathering, allowing everyone to enjoy some tasty homemade ice cream and socialize with fellow 4-H members at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds.
The Sequoyah County Fairgrounds are located at 464101 E. 1070 Rd., Sallisaw.
