600 backpacks full of supplies to be given away at Back to School Roundup

Updated: Jul 18, 2023

Wednesday, July 19, 2023 - Organizers of the 9th Annual Back to School Roundup are actively preparing for this year's backpack and school supply giveaway. The event is set to take place on Saturday, August 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sallisaw Rodeo grounds.

During this free two-hour event, families can enjoy a morning of fun, along with food, bounce houses, and the distribution of 600 backpacks filled with school supplies.

Numerous area businesses and agencies will be present, offering games, activities, and giveaways. In addition, there will be free pony rides for the kiddos.

The National Bank of Sallisaw has generously donated their time and will be on-site during the event, grilling up hot dogs for all ages.

The Mix 105.1 will be broadcasting live from the location, providing music and updates throughout the morning.

Before the fun ends, one lucky little boy and one lucky little girl will get the chance to win a new bicycle. Drawings for each bike will take place between 11:30 and 11:45.

Registration for the event will start outside the rodeo gates at 9 a.m., and gates open at 10 a.m. To be eligible for a backpack and supplies, students receiving them must be from Sequoyah County and be present at the event.

Organizers are currently seeking vendors to participate in the event by setting up booths with games and prizes. If your organization is interested in joining, contact hsilva@sallisawok.org for further information.

If you or your organization would like to contribute to the event either monetarily or by donating supplies, or if you have questions, feel free to contact Melissa Lowe at (918) 776-0848.

The Back-to-School Roundup is made possible through the generous support of several community partners, including KI BOIS Community Action, People Inc., TSET Healthy Living Program, National Bank of Sallisaw, the Sallisaw Health & Wellness Center, Sallisaw NOW Coalition, Cherokee Nation, Boys & Girls Club of Sequoyah County, Sallisaw Lions Club, and The Mix 105.1. Their involvement and contributions make the event bigger and better each year.
