Saturday, July 29, 2023 - Authorities have located remains believed to be that of Ricky Don Henning.
According to Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane, the body was recovered Saturday in a remote, wooded area of southern Adair County.
Sheriff Lane stated that several law enforcement agencies teamed up early Saturday morning to search a remote 200 acre area. Officers utilized ATV's to conduct a search that lasted approximately three hours before the remains were located.
"The body is being turned over to the state medical examiner's office for positive identification and cause of death," Sheriff Lane said.
Two individuals remain in custody in Illinois after confessing Friday to the murder of Henning. Kimberly Ball Gilbert and Mose Smith confessed after being questioned by Sequoyah County investigators who had traveled to Illinois. After confessing, the two provided details of where they had disposed of Henning's body.
The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, the Adair County Sheriff's Office, FBI, other agencies and numerous volunteers.
