Catholic Charities in need of donations

Tuesday, October 18, 2022 - Catholic Charities Helping Center in Sallisaw is currently seeking donations to assist with winter necessities for those in need.

Manager of Catholic Charities in Sallisaw Pam Wemhaner said, "Cold weather is already being forecasted for our area as early as this week. Therefore, we are trying to get as many donations as possible to assure our clients are taken care of and prepared for colder weather."

The organization is currently looking for items such as coats and jackets of all sizes, new electric space heaters, large blankets or comforters, and basic hygiene supplies.

"New space heaters can be purchased for as little as $15 to $20 and have the capacity to heat at least one room. If someone would like to donate financially, they can specify the funds go towards space heaters, and we will gladly go to purchase them," Wemhaner stated. "We also struggle to keep donations of men’s items in stock year-round, especially the staples such as new underwear, socks, shoes, coats, and clothing. There is always a need when it comes to men."

Another need that the agency sees frequently, regardless of age or gender, is hygiene items and day-to-day necessities. Some of these products include deodorant, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, shaving cream, razors, and toothpaste.

Donations can be dropped off at Catholic Charities, 409 N. Adams St. in Sallisaw, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

For questions regarding donations, contact Pam Wemhaner at 918-775-6111.
