Tuesday, July 6, 2021 - The City of Sallisaw has announced to its customers that manganese has been discovered in the city's treated water system.
The manganese is causing the water to have a green or yellow tint in some areas of the city. The water is safe for consumption and city employees are working on adjustments at the treatment plant.
Manganese is a mineral that is found naturally in the environment and is one of the most abundant metals on the earth's surface in air, water and soil. Water temperature and rainfall can be contributing factors causing the manganese levels in the water to increase.
