Tuesday, January 9, 2024 - The Sequoyah County Board of Commissioners appointed a new chairman and vice chairman during their regular scheduled meeting on Monday at the courthouse.
District 3 Commissioner Jim Rogers was appointed as chairman, and District 2 Commissioner Beau Burlison was appointed as vice chairman of the Sequoyah County Board of Commissioners.
Additionally, Burlison was appointed as the new board member for Circuit Engineering Districts (CED) effective January 8, 2024.
Old business included the approval of Sequoyah County Emergency Management Director Jonathan Teague to be appointed as the new floodplain administrator for the county.
Next, there was approval to open and review bids for replacing and repairing guardrails in various locations on Indian Road.
Under new business, commissioners approved a private cemetery for Rocky Cranford to be named Cranford Family Private Cemetery. There was also approval of a lease renewal for a Kyocera copier from Wight Office Machines for the Sequoyah County assessor’s office.
In addition, county officials provided an update regarding preparations being taken ahead of the winter weather. Officials reported that they have been working in advance to ensure all equipment, vehicles, and materials are ready when needed.
These proactive measures Sequoyah County officials have taken are a critical step in safeguarding the community during challenging conditions, and they don’t go unnoticed.
