Thursday, December 8, 2022 - If you've visited the town of Vian lately, you may have noticed construction equipment along with a blocked-off roadway in front of the Vian Public School's gym.
The reason for this is because the groundwork for the construction of the new Vian High School is now underway.
Vian Public Schools superintendent Victor Salcedo stated, "It has been a long process to get here, and it couldn’t have been done without the support of this community and the involvement of our school board."
On Feb. 8, 2022, voters in Vian headed to the polls to decide whether or not they would like to see Vian Public School receive a new high school building. The response was overwhelming, with 833 votes for the bond and 166 votes against it.
"We are excited about this project and are going to make sure this new high school is something our community can be proud of," Salcedo said.
The ten-phase project will cost roughly nine million dollars to construct and will include several new amenities for the school’s campus.
Amenities will include new classrooms for 9th–12th grades, high school administration offices, two computer labs, new library, lobby, and a large commons area.
Salcedo stated, "Our goal is for the commons area to be used for many occasions, such as banquets, assemblies, and public meetings."
Construction of the new high school is expected to be completed on July 1, 2024, as long as there are no delays in equipment or materials.
"Right now we are looking at the Class of 2025 being the first to graduate from the new high school,"
Salcedo said,
The old high school building will be demolished once construction of the new facility is complete.
