Tuesday, September 26, 2023 - The Sequoyah County Board of County Commissioners held their weekly meeting at the Sequoyah County courthouse on Monday morning at 10 a.m.
Consideration of resolutions, bids, and contracts brought approval for the lease purchase of a 2023 Cat 140 GC Grader with a warrant on Sourcewell from Warren Cat for Sequoyah County District #2.
Sequoyah County Undersheriff Charles House provided information during the citizen's presentations portion of the meeting regarding the Blue Line event scheduled this Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"There is going to be a lot going on, including several great speakers, good food, a silent auction, and vendors of all kinds," House stated.
House then informed commissioners that he and Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane would be traveling to McAllen, Texas, Thursday morning to attend the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) border school conference.
House stated, "This training will be able to give us a better understanding of what is taking place at the border and how the border process works. It’s kind of like going to the capital. The more eyes you get on it, the more voices you hear, the louder you can yell."
100 state legislators and sheriffs from 28 states will attend the conference to address the havoc illegal immigration is wreaking on communities in the forms of rising crime, homelessness, and costs.
Under new business, there was approval to appoint Johnathan Teague as the requisitioning agent for Sequoyah County Emergency Management. Approval was also provided for the transfer of appropriations from District #3 M&O to District #3 capital outlay.
In addition, there was approval to appoint Julia McGhee and Kelly Martin as requisitioning officers for the Sequoyah County Health Department for FY 2023–2024. There was also approval to appoint Christina Gaytan and Jennifer Wiley as receiving officers for the Sequoyah County Health Department, effective FY 2023-2024.
