Monday, March 7, 2022 - Crossing the street will soon get easier at one of Sallisaw's main intersections.
At a March 1 special meeting of the Sallisaw Board of City Commissioners, the Commissioners approved the installation of crosswalk signals at the intersection of Oak and Cherokee.
This intersection sees a large amount of foot traffic daily as people cross from the north parking lots on Cherokee to access downtown businesses.
The project, with an estimated cost of $91,000.00, will be contracted to Signal Tek of Oklahoma City.
The project will include audible pedestrian push button and signal screens that meet current ODOT standards. The cost of the project also includes updating existing traffic signals to a new camera system now used at other intersections in the city.
