Wednesday, July 14, 2021 - The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) is now taking applications for its Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a federally funded program that helps eligible families pay their summer cooling bills.
Applications are available at OKDHSLive.org.
Eligible households that already receive DHS assistance and are pre-authorized to receive LIHEAP don't need to apply, but some households that receive DHS aid are NOT pre-authorized and MUST apply online. Those households will be notified by U.S. Mail. Native American households can apply on the DHS website or through their tribe. Tribal households are not allowed to receive assistance from DHS and their tribe in the same fiscal year.
Households are only allowed one payment annually for LIHEAP summer cooling assistance. A “household” is defined as individuals living “under the same roof” with one utility meter.
The maximum monthly gross income allowed per household size is:
1 person: $1,383
2 people: $1,868
3 people: $2,353
4 people: $2,839
5 people: $3,324
6 people: $3,809
7 people: $4,295
8 people: $4,780
Those applying need to have their most recent cooling bill information for their home, along with their identification, Social Security number and proof of income.
