Wednesday, October 25, 2023 - Gans School officials along with the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Dept. have issued statements that the Gans School system is currently under a precautionary lockdown.
According to the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Dept., there was an armed robbery of a FedEx delivery truck in the Gans area and the lockdown has been put in place due to the proximity of the school.
Gans School Superintendent Regina Brannon stated that there is no apparent danger to the students or staff at this time. No one is currently being allowed to enter or leave the school buildings. The school has asked parents and guardians to not attempt to pick up students at this time.
According to the sheriff's department, the suspect stole the FedEx van, then crashed on Old Mountain Road, on the west side of Gans. The suspect then fled into the wooded area on foot.
The suspect is believed to be armed with a gun.
Deputies are on the scene at this time along with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and Cherokee Marshals. A search perimeter has been established
