Local man killed in motorcycle accident

Monday, May 6, 2024 - Jonathan Walters, 41, of Sallisaw was killed Friday at approximately 8:24 pm in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident.


According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) report, the accident occurred on Interstate 40 near eastbound mile marker 295 approximately two miles west of Vian.


The report states that Walters was riding a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he lost control on a curve, departed the roadway to the left and struck a cable barrier. He was transported by Pafford EMS to NHS Sequoyah in Sallisaw with multiple injuries. He was pronounced dead by a hospital physician.


The OHP was assisted at the scene by Pafford EMS, Sequoyah County Sheriff's Dept., Vian Fire Dept., and First Flight.
