Clif’s Pharmacy and Vian Pharmacy will be the host sites for the event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at each pharmacy.
The event is part of the "National Drug Take Back Day," which occurs twice a year. The purpose of National Drug Take Back Day is to encourage, assist, and educate individuals on ways to safely dispose of medications.
When medications are not disposed of properly, they can pose significant health dangers to others. If a child were to access the medication, they could quickly overdose by thinking it's candy. Another problem is the medication could fall into the hands of someone attempting to illegally sell it.
SNC staff will be present during these take-back events to assist in the disposal of medications regardless of whether they are prescribed, over the counter, expired, or no longer needed. Needles are not accepted; however, the SNC does provide free safe sharps disposal containers for those in need.
The organization also provides resources to residents of Sequoyah County at no charge. This includes the safe storage of prescriptions with medication lock boxes and prescription drug disposal packets.
