Monday, October 16, 2023 - Carl Albert State College has opened a new mental health and wellness center, The Harbor. The center is dedicated to providing students, faculty, and staff with the resources and support they need to reach their full potential.
The center will offer a variety of services, including group and individual meetings, workshops, self-care initiatives, and advocacy and support. It will also provide a peaceful reflection lounge, massage chairs, and meeting space.
The Harbor was made possible through multiple grants and state partnerships. "We are excited to open this center and provide our campus community with the resources they need to succeed," said President Jay Falkner. "We are thankful to our institutional partners and local communities for addressing this essential need for our service area."
The center will focus on a variety of topics, including anxiety, breaking stigma, drug and alcohol awareness, financial functionality, holistic wellness, isolation, life and relationships, meditation, mindfulness, overwhelmed feelings, stress management, and time management.
"We want to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone can feel comfortable and empowered to reach their goals," said Renata Goolsby, center coordinator and Oklahoma Department of Mental Health liaison. "We are committed to providing the campus community with the resources they need to unlock their potential."
The Harbor is open to all students, faculty, and staff members on both the Poteau and Sallisaw campuses.
