Monday, MAY 29, 2023 - The Sallisaw Farmers Market has awarded a local high school student $1000 in scholarship money to pursue a career in agriculture. Benjamin Bell was the recipient of the scholarship and plans to attend Arkansas Tech in Russellville where he will major in Agriculture Education. Max Smith, organizer of the Sallisaw Farmers Market, presented the check to Benjamin Bell (middle).
Smith stated that this was something he has been wanting to do for a very long time. The scholarship is available students in Sequoyah County schools and is won by submitting a response on why agriculture is important to you. Smith also stated that the Farmers Market Scholarship will be something he hopes to continue to do in the future.
Smith said that he hopes to invite many more local residents to join the farmers market which would allow for more opportunities like this in the future. If you are interested in joining the Sallisaw Farmers Market, a membership is only $10 a year.
