Monday, January 6, 2023 - The laughter of children will fill the downtown streets of Sallisaw during the 2023 holiday season after one local organization's plan for an ice-skating rink becomes a reality.
Families will have the opportunity to gather at the rink to test their ice-skating skills all throughout the month of December.
President of the Sallisaw Mainstreet Organization Josh Rogers said, "The ice-skating rink will be located downtown at Stage Park and will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights in December."
Details such as hours and cost of admission are still being worked out. Sallisaw Main Street will provide this information as the event draws nearer.
"We are currently seeking financial supporters as well as volunteers to help facilitate the ice-skating rink during the month of December," Rogers added.
The ice-skating rink is just one of the new activities the organization has planned for this year. Rogers explained that the organization will also be hosting the first-ever Main Street Outdoor Market.
The Main Street Outdoor Market will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on the first Thursday night of every month in June, July, August, and September.
The outdoor market will be located on Oak St. from Cherokee to Choctaw and will loop around to the Stage Park. "It will consist of live music, vendors of all kinds, street food and food trucks, fresh flowers, and more." Rogers said.
Vendor applications for the Main Street outdoor market will be available soon.
The organization will also continue to bring you some of your favorite annual activities, such as the BBQ cook-off during Diamond Daze and the chili cook-off in October.
Plus, don’t forget to always keep an eye out for the popular Pink Pig trailer, which offers their delicious funnel cakes and Indian tacos. You never know when or where it might pop up.
If you or your business would like to get involved with the Sallisaw Main Street organization, monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce at noon.
