Friday, August 25, 2023 - The City of Sallisaw has scheduled a Chunk Your Junk Day for Saturday, September 9 from 8:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
Dumpsters will be located on the west side of the Sallisaw Electric Department and supervised by city personnel.
The event is being held for residential customers living within the city limits of Sallisaw. All city customers are required to show proof of their utility bill prior to utilizing the dumpsters and are responsible for unloading their own items.
All waste must originate on residential property and be easily handled. Heavy items that require equipment or shoveling to unload, such as rocks and dirt, will not be accepted.
In addition, residents are asked to bag items as much as possible and separate all metal. All items must fit in a normal half-ton truck bed with no side rails. Trailers up to 16 feet with no side rails will be allowed; however, all loads are subject to being turned away based on contents and weight.
Accepted items include bagged leaves, small plants, metal, wood, and lumber; landscaping materials; furniture; bedding; cans; and bundled cardboard. Small appliances will only be accepted if the coolant or refrigerant has been removed.
Items not accepted include brush, construction debris, shingles, commercial trash, hazardous waste or free-flowing liquids, batteries, paint, oil, cooking oil, fuel, chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, and butane or propane tanks. Tires or other heavy rubber-type materials will also not be accepted.
