Friday, November 17, 2023 - The Sequoyah County Courthouse is looking a little different these days, with a new and larger 20 x 30 gazebo being constructed on the courthouse lawn.
The gazebo will serve many purposes. “Our main priority is to provide constituents with a place to go while awaiting court hearings," District 3 County Commissioner Jim Rogers stated. "The courthouse can get crowded pretty quickly, and the gazebo will serve as an alternative place for citizens to wait, regardless of the weather. It will also be used by courthouse employees who wish to take outdoor breaks or lunches."
One unique piece of the new gazebo is the benches that are in the process of being installed. “We are dedicating one of the benches in memory of Helen Edwards to honor the time and dedication she has given to Sequoyah County throughout the years,” Rogers added.
The gazebo is being constructed on a concrete pad with metal handrails and will be wheelchair accessible.
