“Walk and Roll to School Day” is scheduled for Vian, Liberty, and Eastside this week

Vian, Eastside, and Sallisaw Liberty Elementary are participating in "Walk to School Day" this week. Vian is set for Tuesday, October 8, while Liberty and Eastside are scheduled for Wednesday, October 9.


Event organizer with the TSET Healthy Living Program of Sequoyah County, Jayna Tillman, along with community partners, are asking residents to join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking and bicycling.


On Tuesday, October 8, Vian students and parents will meet at 7:30 a.m. in the simple Simmons parking lot. At approximately 7:45 a.m., the walk will begin from Thornton St., turn left on Vaughn St., left on Cherokee St., and continue to the school.


On Wednesday, October 9, Sallisaw Liberty, along with Eastside students and parents, will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the RINK parking lot. At approximately 7:45, the walk begins on Sioux St., turning right on Ida Ave., and will continue up the first drive to the sidewalk beside the school cafeteria.


The TSET Healthy Living Program of Sequoyah County will provide water and healthy snacks. It is important to note that all students must be accompanied by their parents.


Sponsors of the 2024 “Walk and Roll to School Day” include Sequoyah County TSET Healthy Living Program, Cherokee Nation Public Health, People Inc., OSU Extension, and the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
